The Comfort of Collaborative Care

Healthy Activities To Do While You’re Social Distancing

by Premier Health

Stay-at-home orders have been issued across the state of New Jersey, leaving lots of us with cabin fever. While staying indoors is best for your health and the health of everyone around you, this is no doubt an unprecedented amount of time to be spending time alone. Here are some activities that will help keep your mind and body healthy while you practice social distancing.

Exercise

Gym closed? Not a problem. It’s easy to neglect fitness when gyms are close and you are stuck inside all day, but there are several workouts you can do in the comfort of your home that require no gym equipment at all. Pilates, yoga, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) can all be done with the assistance of Youtube videos.

Some of my favorite fitness Youtube channels are:

Arts & Crafts

It is easy to feel overwhelmed during this crisis, but arts and crafts have been shown to ease anxiety and stress. Crafting has also been shown to increase mindfulness and even combat depression. So grab an adult coloring book and some colored pencils, or even just a pen and paper and let your mind wander. There are several online classes and tutorials available to satisfy all of your crafting needs.

Looking for free classes? Brit & Co is offering free crafting classes for the next two weeks. Use the code SELFCARE at check out.

Explore the World!

Okay, you can’t really explore the world, but several museums and famous landmarks are offering virtual tours online for free, allowing you to see the world from the comfort of your home!

Educate Yourself

Have you always wanted to learn a language, but never had the time? Now you can pass the time with a language app. One of the most popular language apps is Duolingo, where you can learn several languages from Spanish to Navajo. You can even learn High Valyrian if you’re a Game of Thrones fan!

Create An At-Home Spa

Light some candles, put on calming music, and hop in the shower or bath for a relaxing break at the end of the day. If you have some basic ingredients in your kitchen, you can even concoct a homemade facial. And good news– no one is around to judge you for smearing mayonnaise all over your face.
